Anthony Lyver

Joined the Department of Transport (DOT) in 1961 - Retired in 1998

My name is Anthony (Tony) Lyver,I stumbled upon your very informative and interesting site and would like to apply for member status.

After  graduating from radio school in St. John's NL in  1961 with a 2nd class certificate of proficiency in radio I joined the Department of Transport as an RO-1. After a short course in meteorology and aeronautical communications at ASTS in Ottawa I was posted to Lake Eon Aeradio in northern Quebec. Subsequent postings were at Mont-joli Marine/Aeradio, Quebec MAR and Frobisher MAR as RO and Shift Supervisor.

In 1973 I ended up at the Regional Office in Montreal as a Standards officer and as Regional Operations Supervisor from 1975 to 1978. During the period 1979 to 1985 I was the Telecommunications Area Manager at both Frobisher and Mirabel Airport.

I transferred back to the regional office in 1986 as Regional Superintendent FSS Operations from which position I retired in 1998.

The following message from Tony Lyver was received via Laval Desbiens on January 4, 2016

I joined DOT in the Quebec Region as an RO  when the ink was still wet on my 2nd Class Certificate. After the Weather course and Aeronautical communications course at ASTS Ottawa airport (RO12) I was posted to Lac Eon from there I went to VCF MAR 63-67,  VCC MAR 67-70, VFF MAR 70-73 as shift spvr. Then Regional Office Dorval 73-78 as Standards officer and Regional Supervisor Operations for the latter 2 years, then Telecommunications Area Manager Frobisher 1 year and TAM Mirabel 79-84.

In 1984 I was still in the system as a PM within the T&E branch responsible for both RO and EL activities.

In 1986 I was appointed as the Regional Superintendant Flight Service Station Operations within Air Traffic Services as an RO-7.

I spent the last two years in that same position with Nav Canada. I retired in 1998 after 37.5 years combined service.
