This website began as a project in 2004 under the name
Spectralumni. It was originally a project involving
Radio Regulations and Spectrum Management personnel, past and present. The goal
was to capture historical data on radio and telecommunication regulations in
Canada. The project had both a social and historical purpose. The social purpose
was to bring together those who have been associated with Radio Regulations, to
share memories, stories and experiences. The historical purpose was to gather
documentation on the various Departments who were responsible for radio
operations and regulations over the years, their mandates and their organizations.

Ce site web
débuta comme projet en 2004 sous le nom Spectralumni. Le projet
impliquait alors des employés
(anciens et existants) de la
Gestion du spectre électromagnétique
qui avaient pour but de colliger l'histoire de la
réglementation sur la radio
et des télécommunications au Canada.
Le projet visait des buts social et historique. Du côté
social, on voulait
rapprocher ceux qui ont été associés à la
règlementation pour se remémorer des souvenirs, des
histoires et des expériences. Au niveau historique, on voulait
amasser de la documentation concernant les Ministères qui furent
responsables de la règlementation de la radio et des opérations radio aux fils des années,
leurs mandats et leurs
organisations.

The Spectrum Management Directorate
of Industry Canada had its origins in the Department of Communications and the Radio Regulations Division of the
Department of Transport (originally the Department of Marine and Fisheries). It
had various parts including the Regulatory Service, the Monitoring Service, the Ionospheric Service, the Clyde Avenue Lab etc. The Radio Regulations Branch
always had a strong Regional operations and this has continued into the present.
The scope of the project encompasses all parts of the Telecommunications
Regulations Branch (Tel Regs) including the organizations that were part of the
Branch and its predecessors.

La Direction de la gestion du spectre d'Industrie Canada
trouve son origine au Ministère des Communications et à la Division de la réglementation de la radio du Ministère
des Transports ( originalement le Ministère de la Marine et des Pêcheries ). On y trouvait les services de la
réglementation, du contrôle des émissions, du service ionosphérique, le
laboratoire de la rue Clyde et d'autres. La Division de la réglementation de
la radio a toujours eu des apports importants dans les Régions du Canada et
cela est encore d'actualités aujourd'hui. Le projet implique toutes les
composantes de la Division de la Réglementation ( Tel Regs ) et inclut les organisations qui ont fait partie de la Division et de ses
prédécesseurs. |
